French Translators Associations or Professional Associations for Translators and Interpreters of France, Belgium, and Canada
The TRADUguide web-based interactive data base of translators, proofreaders and interpreters allows you
to specify not only the French translators association (e.g. Literary Translators' Association of Canada
or French Translator's Association, etc.), language combination (such as
French-English, or
Dutch-French), the native language (French) but also the country of
residence of the French translator (e.g. Canada or France) to choose standard Qubcois or European
French native speakers).
Why does the country of residence of the French translator matter so much?
Many in France and Belgium do have some problems understanding Quebec French. There are
some differences between standard Quebecois and European French, such as
- the French translation of Car: auto (Qubcois term) and voiture (European term)
or
- the French translation of Good, O.K.: correct (Qubcois term) and bon, beau (European term)
If a Canadian translator would use the term correct in a translation into
French for
the European market, people
in France would understand corrected.
