Career/Experience

I am an American (native English-speaking) freelance translator who has completed a variety of work for clients on websites such as TRADUguide and Upwork/ Elance as well as for agencies and private individuals since February 2013. I have a background as a nurse (RN), and love to do medical translation, however I am happy to accept assignments in a wide variety of areas. I have completed translations of longer works such as a novel from Italian to English about immigration to America from Southern Italy (2016), a book on posturology from Italian to English, the translation of a 417-page book on a historical topic for a client in Berlin, and several other longer works of fiction and non-fiction.

Since 2014 I have been working on German>English translations for the VA and the SSA of medical records for service people serving in Germany, for an agency in this country.

I have been fluent in German since childhood and have an Austrian heritage. I lived, studied and worked in German-speaking countries for 25-30 years (Germany, Austria, Namibia, Switzerland and the German/Italian-speaking province of South Tirol, Italy). I lived in Italy for 15 years total, where among other things I worked as a freelance translator (German>English and Italian>English) and taught English as a Foreign Language. Along the way I obtained the Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom from the Goethe Institute in Munich. From 1996-1999 I did a nursing training in Germany and after 14 years of clinical work in Switzerland, the UK, and the USA I returned to translation work in February 2013.

I am now certified by the Global Translation Institute as a Certified Translation Professional after passing the German/English certification exam in November 2013. Since September 2013 I have been a student in the online certification program for German/English translation at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at New York University and have completed two course of six courses leading to certification.
