I began my full-time career in free-lance translation in 2007.
However, I have been translating since as far back as I can remember, and not always in a professional capacity. Through my multicultural background, born in the US of Czech and Yugoslav parents I have been exposed to a variety of languages and culture since an early age. Through our various moves, first to the UK and then to Germany, this exposure continued and expanded.
Free-lance work began as a student in the UK where I did my BA in Arabic and Turkish. I worked for Arab students helping them to formulate their thoughts in correct English and proof-reading, editing and inputting text for them. During this time I acquired many computer, editing, DTP and text-inputting skills that have been a feaure of my work since then.
Later I worked in tourism in Tunisia for a long time. Here too, translation was always part and parcel of the job, and I had ample opportunity to perfect my French and Arabic. I later worked as manager of a translation agency in Tunisia, further improving my skills in both translation and project management. A large project I worked on was the transliteration and translation of conferences of the African Society of International and Comparative Law. I moved back to Germany in 2001 and was employed by the language school, International House Freiburg from 2002 to 2007 where I used up to 5 languages on a daily basis.
